"Having two children diagnosed with autism, you can’t leave them with just anybody. The Respite Care Nights have saved our sanity and allowed us to leave our children in an environment where we know they’re safe, nurtured and will receive proper care thanks to the registered nurse on duty."
When you hear…Your child has a disability. Often the response is…How will I afford this? When faced with tough situations, it can feel frustrating, overwhelming and sometimes hopeless. The Children’s Center can provide solutions and even hope, like with the Williams family.
After Garrett and Holden Williams were diagnosed with autism, their parents were introduced to The Children’s Center. “I can’t express in words how The Children’s Center has supported our family. When we started looking for help during a trying time in our lives, we were able to find answers thanks to programs and services provided at the Center,” said John Williams, father of Garrett and Holden.
Garrett and Holden’s parents knew they needed specialized care and the Center provided them with guidance, instruction and encouragement. Both parents have watched their sons blossom as a result of the wonderful environment and resources that The Children’s Center offers in a single location. For several years, the boys have received occupational and speech therapy in a fun and creative approach through the Parrish Pediatric Rehabilitation program. Because they are able to get one-on-one specialized care, the brothers now have a great start to the rest of their lives. The Williams family also participates in the Respite Care program, a monthly Parents Night Out where special needs children and typically developing children interact while caregivers have a much needed temporary break from the often exhausting challenges faced by the family caregiver.
“Having two children diagnosed with autism, you can’t leave them with just anybody. The Respite Care Nights have saved our sanity and allowed us to leave our children in an environment where we know they’re safe, nurtured and will receive proper care thanks to the registered nurse on duty. The staff has gone above and beyond with our children’s care but also helps us as parents by listening to our needs and providing advice. Thanks to the Respite Care Nights we were able to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary this year. It’s truly allowed us to relax, grow as a couple and become better parents,” said Williams.
