“I trust every person at Parrish Medical Center with my care and the care of my family and friends,” James said. “I tell everyone how lucky we are to have this hospital in our community.”
James, known as the mayor of his assisted living home, arrived via ambulance to the Emergency Department. He described the scene as organized chaos. James said, “There were so many people moving about, each on a mission, and all working together.”
Though it took a few hours for James to be admitted and moved to a room, while in the ED, James’ needs were met. James said nurses and others took the time to check on him and explain the situation.
James was happy to get to his room and into a real bed. He said it was almost as nice as his bedroom at home. He complimented the housekeeping team saying that he understands it is a difficult job.
James praised his nurses. He didn’t remember their names, but he remembered they treated him with kindness, compassion and patience. James said every person who cared for him made him feel like he was their top priority.
James described his meals as better than at his home. And, he also said they were delivered by someone who cared. “They made sure I had everything I needed before leaving the room.”
James said he recognized that every person had a special part to play in his getting better. “They did it so well, he said. “I can’t thank them enough.”
After a few days, James was happy to return to his home and community. James keeps himself busy being an advocate for the residents. James has shared his experience with the members of his community, as well as, community leadership.
Because of care partners living our mission, vision and values, James received a healing experience. And, he is spreading the word.
