Surprise Inspection from Florida's Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA)

AHCA is Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration that inspects hospitals for compliance to State Laws. On Friday, June 7, 2024, AHCA conducted a surprise inspection in response to the viral social media post about the homeless gentleman. Robert was the inspector. Below is a summary of that surprise inspection, further validating our correct position, proper care and attention to the patient, and justification for our collective outrage!

Robert from AHCA left at 4:30 pm, Friday, June 7, 2024. He thoroughly reviewed the patient’s most recent three ED visits between 6/2-6/5, including video coverage of the patient leaving our building with Stellar (a non-emergency transportation company).

He interviewed the charge nurse caring for the patient and the Case Manager that arranged the discharge plan. Of note: the address on Google for Under the Bridge Ministries is the same as the address for LifePointe Ministries. The address has never been changed resulting in the driver inadvertently bringing the gentleman to the wrong location.

We discussed with the inspector that education was provided to Case Management and he interviewed two Case Managers who were able to speak to the education provided. Going forward, the Case Managers will verify the address with a phone call to the location and document that in their note for additional information to defend our action.

AHCA Inspector had zero findings from the investigation. He will submit his report and we will get a final report within 10 business days.
