TITUSVILLE, FLA. (January 17, 2022)— Honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King’s service to community, Parrish Healthcare was proud to provide health education and blood pressure checks at North Brevard’s Martin Luther King (MLK) Day on Monday, January 16. The event, held at Isaac Campbell Park in Titusville, included live entertainment, a charity basketball game, a car show, food vendors, and a variety of health and wellness resource vendors.
This year’s event was organized by Boyz 2 Men with a Purpose whose mission is to support, mentor, and educate boys and young men ages seven and older, to positively impact their communities. The skills and trades taught include culinary arts, graphic design, carpentry, auto mechanics, and more.
Parrish Healthcare has served as a primary sponsor for MLK Day events within North Brevard since 2014. “Our support of MLK Day is one more way we serve to extend the reach of our vision of Healing Families—Healing Communities,” said Parrish Healthcare President/CEO George Mikitarian.
Dr. Martin Luther King Day is the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service to encourage all Americans to volunteer for the improvement of their communities. During the last quarter-century, the MLK Day of Service has grown, and its impact increased as more Americans embraced the idea that citizenship involves taking an active role in improving communities.
“We believe in Dr. King’s enduring message that ‘everybody can be great because everybody can serve,’” said Mikitarian.
“There is greatness in every act of kindness and service whether you donate blood, provide meals or shelter to the homeless, or mentor at-risk youth,” added Mikitarian.
