Do you suffer from a sleep disorder, like sleep apnea, or have a family
member or friend who has sleep problems? If you do, or if you’re
not sure but want more information, you are encouraged to attend this
support group meeting on Monday, May 2 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Parrish
Healthcare Center at Port St. John, 5005 Port St. John Parkway, (east
of the I-95 Port St. John exit). The meetings are held in the Conference
Center by the south entrance (near the sleep lab). This is a free community
service. Please call 321-268-6408 to register.
The May 2 meeting will have “Sleep Your Way to Weight Loss, Good Health and Long Life,” presented by Dr. Daniel Mora Rivera, Alternative Family Medicine physician. He will discuss natural ways to promote weight loss, good nutrition and the ability to sleep more soundly.
Good sleeping habits may promote weight loss, lower the risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease, as well as increase longevity. If you’ve tried to lose weight, you know it’s not easy. But for some it’s even more difficult. Some dieters who are eating less and exercising more still have a hard time dropping those extra pounds. Why? One answer may lie in their sleep habits. It’s a vicious cycle. You gain weight, which causes your sleep to be worse, and your worsened sleep causes you to gain weight.
At every A.W.A.K.E. Support Group meeting you’ll have the opportunity to see newer model CPAP machines and masks and receive a free mask fitting if you’d like. A.W.A.K.E. Support Group is a free community service.
