JPMF Announces Karla Foster, RN, Scholarship Recipient

Jess Parrish Medical Foundation has announced Brittany Bowman as the 2010 recipient of the Karla Foster, RN, Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship was established by Doug Foster in loving memory of his wife, Karla, who was tragically killed on September 11, 2006 by a hit and run driver. Karla had been a nurse at Parrish Medical Center (PMC) for more than 22 years.

Bowman, a certified nursing assistant, is currently enrolled in an associate’s degree nursing program at Daytona State College. The $3,000 scholarship will assist her in achieving her goal of becoming a registered nurse. “Since the age of five, my ultimate goal in life has been to enhance the well being of others. Helping patients recover from illnesses is something I’ve been carrying out since I was a child caring for my mother with chronic medical problems. I am eager to learn the details behind each patient’s diagnosis and what can be done to help the patients recover, and educate them as well,” said Bowman.
